IELTS Writing চারটি জিনিসে সমান নম্বরে বিচার করা হয়: Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, আর Grammatical Range and Accuracy। Task 2-এর ওজন Task 1-এর দ্বিগুণ। বেশিরভাগ প্রার্থী ৬.৫-এ আটকে যায় Task Response-এ — প্রশ্নের উত্তর না দিয়ে বিষয় নিয়ে লেখার কারণে।
IELTS Writing is marked on four equally weighted criteria: Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1. Most candidates plateau at 6.5 on Task Response — writing about the topic instead of answering the question asked.
Band by band: what actually changes
Each step below is the specific thing standing between one band and the next. They are cumulative — the band 7 work does not help while the band 6 problem is still there.
the word count and a position
Reach the count and take a side
শব্দসংখ্যা পূরণ করুন, একটি অবস্থান নিন
Under 250 words in Task 2 or 150 in Task 1 is penalised before anything else is assessed. After that, the single biggest lift is stating a clear position in the introduction and not moving from it.
- Learn what 250 of your words looks like — count it once, then trust it
- State your position in the introduction, not the conclusion
- Task 1 must have an overview sentence; without one you cannot pass 5 on Task Achievement
paragraphing and development
One idea per paragraph, actually developed
এক প্যারাগ্রাফে একটি ধারণা, বিস্তারিত
Band 6 writing lists reasons. Band 7 writing develops two of them. Claim, explain why it follows, give a concrete example, say what it means for the question. Five undeveloped points score below two developed ones.
- Two body paragraphs, one idea each
- Follow every claim with 'because' and then an example
- Do not introduce a new idea in the conclusion
Task Response depth
Answer the question that was asked
যে প্রশ্ন করা হয়েছে, সেটির উত্তর দিন
'To what extent do you agree' asks for a degree. 'Discuss both views and give your opinion' needs all three parts, and the missing opinion is the most common single reason a good essay caps at 6.5.
- Underline every task in the prompt and tick each off at the end
- Replace formulaic linkers — Firstly, Moreover, In conclusion — with real connections
- Use precise collocations rather than long words used loosely
accuracy under range
Range without losing control
বৈচিত্র্য, কিন্তু নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে নয়
Band 8 needs the majority of your sentences to be error-free while still showing a wide range of structures. Reaching for complexity you cannot control costs more than writing well within your range.
- Vary sentence openings, not just sentence length
- Learn collocations as pairs: 'pose a risk', 'a marked increase'
- Leave three minutes to check articles, plurals and verb tense
The traps যেখানে নম্বর যায়
-
Writing about the topic প্রশ্ন নয়, বিষয় নিয়ে লেখা
The prompt is a question, not an invitation to describe the subject.
-
Memorised sentences মুখস্থ বাক্য
Examiners recognise them and they are excluded from the word count.
-
No overview in Task 1 Task 1-এ overview না থাকা
Without a summary of the main trend, Task Achievement cannot pass band 5.

The other papers
IELTS Reading
রিডিং
Band 7 = 30/40 correct. Band 6 = 23/40. That gap is seven questions.
IELTS Listening
লিসেনিং
Band 7 = 30/40. A misspelled word you heard perfectly still scores zero.
IELTS Speaking
স্পিকিং
Accuracy is one of four criteria. Silence while you search for the perfect word costs more than the imperfect word would have.
