IELTS in Bangladesh is delivered by two official partners, the British Council and IDP, at 48 venues in 13 cities. Paper-based IELTS has ended: IDP stopped paper tests after 31 January 2026 and the British Council books only computer sessions, so every test is on a computer. British Council sessions start at 09:00, 13:30 or 17:30; IDP sessions at 10:00 or 13:00. Speaking is on the same day. The test, the fee and the marking are identical at both, so choose by date, distance and time of day.

Test day, hour by hour পরীক্ষার দিন: কখন কী হয়
Listening, Reading and Writing are taken in one sitting on the computer, with no break between them: 30 minutes of Listening, 60 of Reading and 60 of Writing. Speaking is an 11 to 14 minute interview on the same day, either with the examiner in the room or on a video call at the centre. Your reporting time arrives by email: at least three days before the test with the British Council, five to seven days before with IDP.

What to bring, and what stays outside কী সাথে নেবেন, কী বাইরে থাকবে
- The ID you booked with. For IELTS on computer the British Council accepts a valid passport or a smart NID card; IDP asks for the passport you registered with. IELTS for UKVI needs a passport. Photocopies and expired documents are refused.
- Water in a clear bottle with the label removed. Nothing else goes into the room.
- Phones, watches and bags go into the storage area before check-in. Keeping a phone with you means disqualification.
- Nothing to write with. The centre gives you a pen or pencil and paper for notes. Your photo and fingerprint are taken at check-in.
- Under 18? A parent or guardian must give consent when you book.

How to choose your centre কোন কেন্দ্র বেছে নেবেন
- Same test, same fee, same score. The British Council and IDP deliver the identical IELTS, and universities and embassies accept both. Choose the venue and the date, not the brand.
- Need a result soon? Dhaka has sessions every day, Friday and Saturday included: IDP's Dhanmondi office tests seven days a week, and the British Council's Dhaka venues run up to three sessions a day.
- Busy during the day? The British Council's 17:30 session ends at 20:15. It runs at FutureEd, Mentors, Banglay IELTS and the British Council's own Chattogram and Sylhet centres.
- Nervous about speaking to a screen? Most British Council venues hold Speaking by video call; Wings, Enhance English, Megamind, UKA and Mentors Kalabagan mostly use a live examiner in the room.
- Applying for a UK visa? IELTS for UKVI runs at British Council Chattogram and Sylhet, FutureEd Banani and the three Hexas venues, and at IDP's Dhanmondi office, Penston Dhanmondi, PIE Dhanmondi, Compass Banani and Ignite Sylhet.
- Outside the big cities? Rangpur, Cumilla, Feni, Jashore, Bogura, Barishal and Moulvibazar test only a few days a month, and some rooms hold three to five candidates. Book as soon as dates open.
- Never typed an essay against the clock? Every test here is on a computer now. Sit a full mock on the same interface first: how the computer test works.

How to book, and what it costs কীভাবে বুক করবেন, খরচ কত
Book only on the official sites. The British Council takes cards, bKash, Rocket and DBBL Nexus, or payment within 24 hours at a registration centre; IDP takes cards, bKash, Nagad or cash at an IDP office, within two days. On 25 September 2026 both charged ৳31,100 for IELTS on computer and ৳34,850 for IELTS for UKVI; Life Skills A1 or B1 was ৳24,750. On 25 September 2026, 48 venues in 13 cities were open for booking: 29 British Council venues in 10 cities and 19 IDP venues in 8 cities. Dhaka alone has 27. A few more appear on ielts.org with no sessions open.

What time does the IELTS exam start in Bangladesh? বাংলাদেশে IELTS পরীক্ষা কয়টায় শুরু হয়?
British Council written-test sessions start at 09:00, 13:30 or 17:30; IDP sessions at 10:00 or 13:00, with 14:00 or 17:00 at a few venues. The exact reporting time is in your confirmation email; arrive at least 30 minutes before it.

Is the Speaking test on the same day? স্পিকিং কি একই দিনে হয়?
Yes. Every IELTS test in Bangladesh is now on computer, and Speaking is on the same day as Listening, Reading and Writing, before or after them. With the British Council you choose a 20-minute Speaking slot when you book; IDP emails your Speaking time about two days before.

Can I still take paper-based IELTS in Bangladesh? বাংলাদেশে কি এখনো কাগজে IELTS দেওয়া যায়?
No. IDP stopped paper tests after 31 January 2026, IELTS for UKVI has been computer-only since 27 July 2025, and the British Council books only computer sessions. The questions, timing and marking are the same on computer; only the screen is new.

Where can I take IELTS in Dhaka on a Friday or Saturday? ঢাকায় শুক্র বা শনিবারে IELTS কোথায় দেওয়া যায়?
At many venues. IDP's Dhanmondi office tests every day of the week; Penston Dhanmondi, PIE Dhanmondi, Compass Banani and PIE Banani include Friday and Saturday; and the British Council's Dhaka venues schedule sessions on both days. The offices themselves are closed on Friday and Saturday.

British Council or IDP: which is easier? ব্রিটিশ কাউন্সিল না IDP: কোনটা সহজ?
Neither. Both deliver the same IELTS, marked the same way, for the same fee, and universities and embassies accept both. Choose the date, venue and session time that suit you.
