Matching headingsMatching Headings: প্যারাগ্রাফের মূল বক্তব্য ধরার কৌশল
প্রতিটি প্যারাগ্রাফের মূল বক্তব্য মেলাতে হয়, কোনো একটি শব্দ নয়। প্যারাগ্রাফটি পড়ে নিজের ভাষায় এক লাইনে সারাংশ করুন, তারপর সেই সারাংশের সাথে মেলে এমন হেডিং বাছুন। যে হেডিংয়ে প্যারাগ্রাফের কেবল একটি উদাহরণ বা ছোট অংশ আছে, সেটিই সবচেয়ে সাধারণ ফাঁদ।
Match each paragraph's main idea, not a word inside it. Read the paragraph, summarise it in one line in your own words, then find the heading that matches your summary. A heading that describes only one example inside the paragraph is the standard distractor.
These are the rules the marking actually follows. IELTS Reading is assessed against the publicly published IELTS band descriptors, and this question type is scored on whether your answer matches what the text says — not on how much you know about the topic.

1 Do this task last

Answering the other question types first means you have already read the passage closely, and headings become far quicker.

2 Summarise before you look

Write your own one-line summary of the paragraph first. Reading the headings first makes you hunt for words instead of meaning.

3 First and last sentences carry the claim

The topic sentence usually opens the paragraph, and the paragraph's point is often restated at the end. The middle is evidence.

4 Eliminate as you go
ব্যবহৃত হেডিং কেটে দিন
There are always more headings than paragraphs. Cross off each one you use; the shrinking list makes the last few nearly free.

The trap যেখানে সবাই ভুল করে
The trap heading repeats a striking word from the paragraph — a name, a number, a place — while describing something the paragraph only mentions in passing. Ask whether the heading covers the whole paragraph or one sentence of it.
ফাঁদ হেডিংয়ে প্যারাগ্রাফের কোনো চোখে পড়ার মতো শব্দ — নাম, সংখ্যা বা জায়গা — হুবহু থাকে, কিন্তু সেটি প্যারাগ্রাফের গৌণ অংশ। প্রশ্ন করুন: হেডিংটি পুরো প্যারাগ্রাফ ঢাকে, নাকি একটি বাক্য?
In one line
Do: Read the heading list first. Read one paragraph at a time, identify its main idea, match it, then continue to the next paragraph.
করুন: আগে হেডিং তালিকা পড়ুন। একটি করে প্যারাগ্রাফ পড়ে তার মূল ভাব ঠিক করুন, মিলিয়ে দিন, তারপর পরেরটিতে যান।
Do not: Read the whole passage deeply first or match a heading from one repeated word.
করবেন না: আগে পুরো প্যাসেজ গভীরভাবে পড়বেন না, আর একটি পুনরাবৃত্ত শব্দ দেখে হেডিং মেলাবেন না।
The golden rule for the whole Reading paper
Do not read every passage deeply before answering. Read the title and quickly skim the passage, then use each question to find the correct area.
উত্তর দেওয়ার আগে পুরো প্যাসেজ গভীরভাবে পড়বেন না। শিরোনাম দেখে দ্রুত স্কিম করুন, তারপর প্রতিটি প্রশ্ন ধরে সঠিক জায়গাটা খুঁজুন।
